Healthcare is one of the most consequential sectors any economy can invest in. It determines quality of life, shapes workforce productivity, drives some of the most sophisticated research on earth, and when it is working well, it creates the conditions for everything else to function.

It is also a sector in the middle of a profound transformation. One that goes far beyond digitising existing processes or making incremental improvements to established systems. The question being asked by the most forward-thinking health systems in the world is more fundamental: what would healthcare look like if we designed it from the ground up, with everything we now know?

A Partnership That Defines Our Ambition

In 2025, SPARK brought together some of the world’s leading voices in healthcare, medicine, and life sciences for Sharjah Next: Healthcare, a forum that went beyond conference. It was a statement of intent, a demonstration that Sharjah is serious about its role in shaping the future of global health, and a platform where international expertise met local opportunity in a way that creates lasting impact.

Building on that momentum, in August 2026 SPARK’s Chairperson H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi formally accepted the patronage of the Magdi Yacoub Institute, one of the world’s leading centres for cardiovascular research, based at Harefield in the United Kingdom. This formalised a growing collaboration between the Institute, SPARK, the American University of Sharjah, and the University of Sharjah, creating new pathways for joint research, scientific exchange, and talent development across institutions.

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi’s announcement of a two-million-dollar grant to support the Magdi Yacoub Valve project further underscores Sharjah’s commitment to backing research that can genuinely change lives.

This is what investing in science looks like in practice.

From Reactive to Preventive

For most of its history, healthcare has been reactive, responding to illness after it occurs, treating conditions that could have been prevented, and allocating resources toward acute care rather than long-term health. That model is expensive, unsustainable, and most importantly, it does not deliver the best outcomes for people.

The shift toward preventive, personalised, and data-driven healthcare is already underway. Wearable devices and remote monitoring platforms. Genomic profiling that can identify risk decades before disease manifests. AI-powered diagnostics that can detect abnormalities earlier than any human clinician are being developed, validated, and deployed right now, and SPARK is part of the ecosystem making that happen.

The challenge is about building the conditions that allow these innovations to move from research to clinical practice at scale. That is precisely what our partnerships, our forums, and our community are designed to do.

Where SPARK Fits

At SPARK, we work with companies across the healthcare and life sciences spectrum, from digital health platforms and medical devices to biotech, health data analytics, and AI-driven diagnostics. Our role is to provide the environment where innovation can move from concept to commercialisation, with access to research partnerships, testing infrastructure, and the industry connections that the journey requires.

We believe the UAE has a meaningful and growing role to play in shaping the future of global healthcare. And we believe SPARK is the platform from which that role can be built.

People at the Centre

Technology transforms healthcare, but people are always at the centre of it. The diagnostic tool that catches something a clinician might have missed. The monitoring platform that gives a patient more control over their own health. The precision medicine approach that means treatment is designed for the individual, not the average.

Building this kind of healthcare future requires a deep commitment to outcomes, for patients, for health systems, and for society.

That is the standard we hold ourselves to at SPARK. And it is the standard we look for in the companies and partners we work with.
