Leadership in Space & Academia
Professor Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy is a globally recognized scientist in astronomy and space sciences, as well as a respected academic leader. He currently serves as Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, Director General and Founder of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), and President of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS).
He holds a BSc in Physics from the University of Baghdad, an MSc in Astronomy, and a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Manchester. Over the years, he has established seven observatories and space centers in countries such as Iraq, Jordan, and the UAE, including the founding of SAASST in 2015. His previous leadership roles include Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at UOS, Dean of the Institute of Astronomy at Al al-Bayt University in Jordan, and Chair of the Physics Department at UAE University.

Research, Education & Recognition
Professor Al Naimiy has made landmark contributions in applied physics and astronomy, publishing more than 800 scientific articles and authoring over 35 books. He has taught and mentored generations of students, supervising over 50 MSc and PhD theses, and served as editor or reviewer for more than 130 peer-reviewed publications.
His research includes work on the relationship between Quranic texts and scientific discoveries in space sciences. He has delivered keynote speeches at over 250 global conferences and helped organize more than 100 academic events. Among his many accolades are the NASA Plaque for IHY Coordination, the IAU/UNESCO Award, and the Khalifa Award for Education — all honouring his dedication to advancing astronomy, education, and scientific dialogue worldwide.
