Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the UAE, and Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation (SRTI) Park held recently the ‘The Future of Innovation & The Cities of the Future’ workshop, which reflects the vision of the emirate’s wise leadership in the development of smart cities and open data cities, and the advancement of scientific research and innovation in Sharjah and the UAE.
Several leading figures, government officials, entrepreneurs and experts participated in the workshop which focused on the future of innovation in smart cities and the competitive advantages of the emirate, which enables it to become a global leader in research, entrepreneurship and innovation.
‘The Future of Innovation & The Cities of the Future’ workshop follows the successful collaboration between SRTI Park and Future Cities Catapult Services, a UK government institution dedicated to developing innovative products, services and infrastructure to meet the needs of smart communities. The partnership aims to capitalize on the strengths of both parties in further boosting investments in technology, research, innovation and knowledge through SRTI Park’s leading role in facilitating economic growth through knowledge, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTI Park said that ‘The Future of Innovation & The Cities of the Future’ workshop is another major step towards achieving H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi’s vision of making innovation, research, science and technology a solid foundation of the nation’s economy, noting that the workshop is a step forward in strengthening international partnerships essential in building the future of Sharjah and the UAE, which has become one of today’s global leader in digital revolution, technological transformation and economic competitiveness.
He added: “We look forward to continue building networks with experts and promote knowledge sharing through our international partners, including Future Cities Catapult to drive SRTI Park’s efforts in establishing Sharjah as a leading global capital for education, scientific research, innovation, knowledge and entrepreneurship.”

The strategic partnership between SRTI Park and Future Cities Catapult aims to encourage private sector participation and investments in Sharjah’s initiatives and attract leading global companies in the field of technology, research, innovation and knowledge, including those from the UK and other smart cities in the world. The partnership further promotes the SRTI Park to international companies and facilitate ways on how to take advantage of the Park’s facilities as an incubator for innovation and a hub for technology-based businesses.
