Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park) recently participated in the fifth edition of the Sharjah FDI Forum 2019, which was held at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre in Sharjah on November 11 and 12. The Park’s participation is in line with its constant endeavor to highlight its position as a research and testing center for innovation, and the preferred destination for investors and multinationals focused on: water technology, renewable energy, environmental technology, digitization, production design and architecture and transport and logistics.
CEO of SRTI Park H.E. Hussain Al Mahmoudi participated in a special ‘Youth Circle’ titled ‘The Future of Youth in the Era of Digital Enterprise’. Al Mahmoudi spoke about the Park’s role in linking the public, academic and private sectors through experimental and research investment activities held on the ground and its role in the service of scientific research. We are working to establish new horizons of scientific and innovative investments to support the economic and development process of the Emirate of Sharjah. We are attracting a new caliber of private investments specialized in modern industries, which will contribute to the development of vital fields including transportation, agriculture, construction and others which will place Sharjah as a global center of research and innovation. Al-Mahmoudi also invited young people to establish their startups at the Park which will support their enterprise creation in the fields of Technology and Innovation.
In a panel discussion on the second day titled "Sharjah Government - Investing in Sharjah" Al Mahmoudi talked about the strategy of the park and shared the current project the park is engaged in. He stressed on the importance of investing in knowledge by saying, " The Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park Free Zone was mandated to develop and manage an innovation ecosystem that promotes Research and Development and supports enterprise activities and the triple helix collaboration of industry, government, and academia. The park will serve as a catalyst for Sharjah’s development into a knowledge-based economy by being a regional and global business hub for Research and Development. The Park focuses on 6 research areas that are vital to Sharjah and the Gulf Region which will lead Sharjah to technology leadership acting as the region´s role model for a knowledge economy. The establishment of a Sharjah-based innovation system that supports building a sustainable, knowledge-based economy will increase regional employment opportunities for the University City and regional graduates. Our goal is to produce solutions that answer to market needs while taking major socio-economic challenges into consideration."
The Park’s platform, which was part of the exhibition accompanying the Forum, witnessed a remarkable demand by visitors of the exhibition, participants and the media, as well as multinationals working in the fields of innovation and technology. In addition, The Park has taken a keen interest in encouraging and activating the academic role, represented by faculty and students, to move scientific research from the theoretical to the applied practical stage throughout the Park. The appropriate ecosystem is being created to serve this objective and work to help researchers connect with the business world and catalyze investment. SRTI Park’s main objective is to create triple helix partnerships between public, private and academic sectors which will lay foundations of creating a sustainable knowledge economy for the long-term success of Sharjah and the UAE which was highlighted thought the Park’s participation in the Forum.
